Families may be classified into a number of different types. Some of the types that we have discussed in class are:
Nuclear/Traditional family – includes a mother, father and children. The children can be biological or adopted.
Single-parent family – includes one parent and children. The children can be biological or adopted.
Extended family – includes two or more adults, from different generations, and their children living in the same household.
Childless family – includes two adults and no children (voluntarily).
Blended family – two or more families joining together to make one.
Gay or lesbian parent family - includes two fathers or two mothera and their children. Grandparent family – includes the grandparents who are raising their grandchildren.
