Types of Families

Families may be classified into a number of different types. Some of the types that we have discussed in class are:
Nuclear/Traditional family – includes a mother, father and children. The children can be biological or adopted.
Single-parent family – includes one parent and children. The children can be biological or adopted.
Extended family – includes two or more adults, from different generations, and their children living in the same household.
Childless family – includes two adults and no children (voluntarily).
Blended family – two or more families joining together to make one.
Gay or lesbian parent family - includes two fathers or two mothera and their children. Grandparent family – includes the grandparents who are raising their grandchildren.

Family Tree


This week we have been talking about our family history. We are doing this as an introduction to the unit about relationships. I am requiring all students to trace their personal family tree back as far as Great-grandparents. Each family tree should include names (first, last and maiden), DOB and DOD, occupation, and picture/creative representation. I am aware that all of this information may not be available. You should try your best to research this information, but if it is unavailable you should put a question mark in it's place. You may also add the place of birth, similarities and differences to you, coat of arms, background history, include pictures, how they died etc.

There is also a presentation involved with this assignment. This has been explained in class.

Review

We have been reviewing the 7 habits. We are currently on habit 5. Our classes have been very interactive over the past week and a half, so if you are missing time you will be missing out on some fun activities. I hope all of you are understanding the concepts. If you are questioning anything that takes place in class, please come and see me.

Review

This week we discussed habit #1: Be Proactive. We discovered that it is much better to be proactive than reactive, but that many of us approach life in a reactive way. We watched a short video about Audrey Hepburn's beauty tips and discussed how it related to our class. We also completed a before, during and after activity to help us understand the text that we read. Next week we will be talking more about habit #2: Begin with the End in Mind. I am asking all students to bring in a baby picture on Monday. Have a safe and fun weekend!
